The Heart of Worship: Reverence
W.O.R.S.H.I.P — 3. Reverence:
"God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
and to be held in reverence by all those around Him."
(Psalm 89:7)
Dear Prudent Woman,
Welcome back to Worship Wednesday!
We've journeyed through a willing heart and obedience. Today, we explore a crucial element that deepens our worship—reverence.
When was the last time you paused to consider who God really is? Not just what He can do for you, but WHO He is in His majesty, holiness, and power?
Before you pray this week, spend a few minutes meditating on one of God's names or attributes: Jehovah Jireh (Provider), El Shaddai (Almighty), Jehovah Shalom (Peace), The Holy One, The Great I AM. Let the weight of His greatness settle on your heart before you bring your requests.
Worship Him for WHO He is before asking for what you need.

The Third Principle of Worship: REVERENCE
- Reverence is that holy awe that takes your breath away when you truly encounter God's greatness. It's the healthy fear that doesn't push you away but draws you closer with humility and wonder.
- Reverence means recognizing that God is not our buddy, our genie, or our equal. He is the Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, the Holy One who dwells in unapproachable light. Yet this same God invites us into His presence!
- Reverence doesn't mean being afraid of God in a way that makes you hide from Him. It means being so aware of His greatness that you approach Him with respect, honor, and deep gratitude that He even allows you to come near.
"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear." (Hebrews 12:28)
Reverence shapes how we:
When we revere God, wisdom follows. When we honor Him as holy, our decisions change. When we remember His greatness, our problems look smaller.
Would you speak that way if you could see Jesus standing beside you? Would you make that choice if you remembered God is watching? Would you compromise if you truly revered His holiness?
"Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling." (Psalm 2:11)
This verse beautifully balances reverence with joy. You can dance before God and tremble at His majesty. You can celebrate His goodness and respect His holiness.
Reverence in Our Worship
Think about it: Do we approach God casually, as if He's lucky to have our attention? Or do we come trembling with joy at the thought that the King of Kings wants a relationship with us?Reverence shapes how we:
- Speak to God in prayer (with honor, not flippancy)
- Handle His Word (as the truth, not mere suggestions)
- Enter His presence (prepared and expectant, not distracted)
- Live our lives (knowing He sees everything)
When we revere God, wisdom follows. When we honor Him as holy, our decisions change. When we remember His greatness, our problems look smaller.
Reverence in Our Daily Life
Reverence isn't just for church services. It's for every moment. It's remembering that God is present when you're making decisions about your relationships, your words, your choices, and your character.Would you speak that way if you could see Jesus standing beside you? Would you make that choice if you remembered God is watching? Would you compromise if you truly revered His holiness?
"Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling." (Psalm 2:11)
This verse beautifully balances reverence with joy. You can dance before God and tremble at His majesty. You can celebrate His goodness and respect His holiness.
Heart Check ✔
- Do I approach God with the honor He deserves?
- Am I casual about sin because I've forgotten God's holiness?
- Do I study His Word with reverence or skim it carelessly?
- Does my awareness of God's presence influence my choices?
This Week's Challenge
Before you pray this week, spend a few minutes meditating on one of God's names or attributes: Jehovah Jireh (Provider), El Shaddai (Almighty), Jehovah Shalom (Peace), The Holy One, The Great I AM. Let the weight of His greatness settle on your heart before you bring your requests.
Worship Him for WHO He is before asking for what you need.
The closer you get to God, the more you realize how great He is—and that should take your breath away.
Join me in prayer:
"Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty! Father, forgive me for the times I've approached You casually, forgetting Your greatness. Give me a fresh revelation of Your majesty. Let reverence for You shape every area of my life. You are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen."
See you next Worship Wednesday!
