The Heart of Worship: Honor

W.O.R.S.H.I.P. — 5. Honor:

But now the Lord declares:
'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor,
but those who despise me will be disdained
(1 Samuel 2:30)

Dear Prudent Woman,

Welcome back to Worship Wednesday!

We've journeyed through a willing heart, obedience, reverence, and surrender. Today, we explore how worship expresses itself through honor.

What Is Honor?

Honor means placing value on something or someone. When we honor God, we're saying, "You are worth it. You deserve the best I have to offer."

Honor isn't just a feeling; it's an action. It's demonstrated in how we:

  • ✅Spend our time (Do we give God the first part of our day or the tired end?)

  • ✅Use our gifts (Are we serving Him with excellence or halfheartedly?)

  • ✅Manage our resources (Does God get our first fruits or what's left over?)

  • ✅Represent Him (Does our life bring honor to His name?)

Honor In Your Time

Time is one of the most precious gifts you can give. When you honor God with your time, you're saying, "You're more important than my busy schedule."

Do you give God the first moments of your day, when you're fresh and alert? Or does He get the exhausted minutes before you fall asleep? Do you prioritize time in His Word and prayer, or do they get squeezed in only when convenient? (Matthew 6:33)

Your time reveals your priorities. When you honor God with the firstfruits of your day, you set the tone for everything else.

Honor In Your Relationships

The way you conduct yourself in relationships is an act of honor—or dishonor—to God.

When you honor God's design for purity, you're worshiping. When you speak with integrity and kindness, you're worshiping. When you treat others with respect and dignity, you're demonstrating honor for the One who created them. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Your relationships should reflect God's character. Let your interactions honor Him—in how you love, how you speak, how you forgive, and how you serve.

Honor In Your Resources

God doesn't need your money, but He watches what you do with it because it reveals your heart. When you honor Him with your finances—through faithful giving, wise stewardship, and generous living—you're declaring that everything you have belongs to Him. (Malachi 3:10)

Honor In Your Testimony

Your life is a testimony. The way you live, the words you speak, the character you display—all of it either honors God or dishonors Him.

When people see you, do they see Jesus? Does your life make others curious about the God you serve? Are you representing Him well in your workplace, your home, your community? (Matthew 5:16)

Join me in Prayer

"Father, forgive me for the times I have given You my leftovers instead of my best. You are worthy of my first and finest. Help me honor You with my time, my talents, my treasure, and my testimony. Let my life be a reflection of Your worthiness. In Jesus' name, Amen."

With love and grace,
Faith Murithi, FAMU Mentorship.
