The Heart of Worship: Obedience

W.O.R.S.H.I.P — 2. Obedience:

"But Samuel replied:
'Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings
and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.'"
(1 Samuel 15:22)

Dear Prudent Woman,

Welcome to Wednesday Worship!

Last week, we explored the foundation of worship: a willing heart. Today, we're taking the next step in our journey: understanding that true worship flows into obedience.

"But Samuel replied: 'Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.'" (1 Samuel 15:22)

Here's a powerful truth...

The Second Principle of Worship: Obedience

You can sing the most beautiful songs on Sunday, lift your hands in praise, and feel the presence of God, but if you walk out of that worship experience and live in disobedience, your worship remains incomplete. God isn't impressed by our religious performances. He's moved by our obedience.

Worship Is A Lifestyle, Not Just A Moment

Sisters, our Monday matters just as much as our Sunday. The way we speak to others, the choices we make when no one is watching, the integrity we maintain in our relationships—this is worship.

When obedience becomes our lifestyle, every moment becomes an altar. Jesus said it clearly:  "If you love Me, keep My commandments." (John 14:15)

Love isn't just a feeling—it's obedience in action.

Obedience In Your Relationships

Whether you're single or married, obedience to God's Word in your relationships is worship.
  • Are you honoring God's standards?
  • Are you speaking life instead of complaining?
  • Are you treating others with the love and respect God commands?
When we choose to obey God's Word even when it's difficult, we're worshiping. When we align our choices with Scripture instead of our feelings, we're declaring that His ways are higher than our ways. God's design for relationships works when we walk in obedience to His principles.

Heart Check

  1. In what area is God calling you to deeper obedience?
  2. Are you offering God sacrifices (activities) while withholding obedience (lifestyle)?
  3. What does your daily life say about your worship?
This Week's Challenge

Identify ONE area where you know God has been speaking to you about obedience. Maybe it's your words, boundaries, finances, attitude, or time management. This week, choose to obey in that specific area—not to earn God's love, but as an expression of your worship.

Pray with me:

"Father, forgive me for the times I have given you songs but withheld obedience. Help me understand that my lifestyle is my loudest worship. Give me the strength to obey you even when it's uncomfortable, even when it costs me. Let my life be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you. In Jesus' name, Amen."

With love and grace,
Faith Murithi, FAMU Mentorship.
